Jack trained as a Buddhist monk in the monasteries of Thailand, India and Burma. He has taught meditation internationally since 1974 and is one of the key teachers to introduce Buddhist mindfulness practice to the West. He is a founding teacher of the Insight Meditation Society and Spirit Rock Meditation Center. He holds a PhD in clinical psychology, and is a father, husband, and activist. His books include All in This Together: Stories and Teachings for Loving Each Other and Our World; A Path with Heart; Buddha's Little Instruction Book; Teachings of the Buddha; Seeking the Heart of Wisdom; Living Dharma; A Still Forest Pool; After the Ecstasy, the Laundry; The Art of Forgiveness, Lovingkindness and Peace; The Wise Heart: A Guide to the Universal Teachings of Buddhist Psychology; and Bringing Home the Dharma: Awakening Right Where You Are.

When you learn to step back and become loving awareness itself, you become a model of how to live in this magnificent and troubled human incarnation. We human beings have suffered wars and environmental disasters, earthquakes and typhoons, tornadoes and pandemics. We know how to do this. We know how to keep our hearts steady and calm. We know how to see that we're woven together in this mystery. Then we can respond—not with fear or ambition, and not with optimism or pessimism, both of which are just ideas. We can respond with the heart.

Grounded in Gratitude: Stories and Practices for the Resilient Heart

In times of uncertainty and collective change, the heart’s capacity for compassion, love, and gratitude offers a steady refuge. During this nourishing day of meditation, storytelling, and shared reflection, we'll explore how these qualities can be intentionally cultivated to meet life's challenges with resilience and hope. Rooted in timeless contemplative practices, this gathering invites us to reconnect with what is genuinely good, deepen our sense of belonging, and carry the gifts of the heart into everyday life. All are welcome.
