♫ Oct 2 @ 7:30pm: Māh Ze Tār with Dros Live!

devon hase, MA

Residential Retreat Teacher

devon first encountered meditation in 2000, as a college sophomore longing for a deeper way to meet life. Since then, She has spent over six cumulative years in meditation retreat in both the Insight and Vajrayana traditions, studying closely with teachers such as Joseph Goldstein, Tara Brach, Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, and others.

Most recently, devon and her partner fulfilled a long-held dream by completing a three-year meditation retreat.

devon co-guides Refuge of Belonging, an online Dharma community where meditation meets daily life. Whether you're just beginning or decades into practice, Refuge of Belonging creates space for anyone curious about inner transformation—offering weekly talks, monthly daylongs, in-depth courses, and personal mentoring that help you stay awake to your life as it actually is.

Before teaching Dharma full-time, devon was a classroom teacher for ten years, focusing on creative writing and cultural studies. devon is a graduate of Spirit Rock's Community Dharma Leaders program and the Insight Meditation Society's teacher training program, and now serves as co-coordinating teacher for Spirit Rock's CDL program.

In addition to her work with Refuge of Belonging, devon teaches on retreat teams at Insight Meditation Society, Spirit Rock, and other centers internationally.

devon and her partner, nico, co-authored How Not to Be a Hot Mess: A Buddhist Survival Guide for Modern Life, and their new book, This Messy Gorgeous Love: A Buddhist Guide to Lasting Partnership, comes out April 14th, 2026. devon is passionate about depth practice—on retreat and in daily life—and deeply grateful to her lineage teachers who have modeled these forms so beautifully.

These days, devon is especially interested in how we can support the living Buddhist traditions in ways that feel accessible, inclusive, and deeply relevant to our complex times.

If you're curious about a community that takes both inner work and real life seriously, come check out Refuge of Belonging.

What are we doing here? We are learning to care for our aching and complex hearts so that we can learn to care for this aching and complex world. This path definitely is about standing under our dukkha. But it's also about opening to the beautiful—it's about trusting beauty, trusting that which is beautiful. We have to grow our capacity to open to joy, rapture, bliss, contentment, and gladness. Our capacity to hold beauty equals our capacity to hold difficulty, and our capacity to hold challenge grows our capacity to open to goodness.

17-night Retreat: Concentration (Samādhi) & Fall Insight Retreat

A Special Opportunity for Deep, Integrated Practice: 17-Night Retreat in the Fall

Full - short waitlist. For those seeking an extended retreat experience this fall, we encourage you to consider attending both the Concentration (Samādhi) (Oct 2-12) and the Fall Insight Retreat (Oct 12-20) as one continuous 17-night retreat. These two retreats are intentionally designed to complement one another, offering a rare opportunity to deepen in both heart and wisdom practices.

This combined retreat supports a natural progression in the meditative path: cultivating samādhi as a foundation, followed by insight practices (vipassanā) grounded in that settled presence. Teachers see this integration as essential. Uniting these practices brings enhanced clarity and depth to both. While each retreat may be attended on its own, we strongly recommend that practitioners who are ready for a longer commitment join both as one cohesive training.
